This Class Will Be Scheduled Soon
45 minGrey Lynn Library Hall, 474 Great North Road

Service Description

Radiqal Movement, The Joyful Movement, and the Trans Heart Health Project are teaming up to host a welcoming, fun, and community-centered event! This gathering is for anyone who’s physically active, wants to rediscover joy in movement, or simply enjoys connecting over good snacks and conversation. We warmly welcome people who identify with experiences or terms like transgender, transsexual, Takatāpui, MVPFAFF+, non-binary, genderqueer, and others. You don’t need to be ‘out’ or have accessed hormones or surgery to join us. 5:45-8:45 PM: The Grey Lynn Library Hall will be open with food and non-alcoholic drinks. Feel free to drop in anytime during the event. 6-6:45 Radiqal Movement will be providing a free speed-meet boxing class at 6pm, facilitated by Lauren Hartridge (she/they) and Brydie Nathan (she/they): wear clothes you feel comfortable moving in, no experience necessary! Just make sure you arrive by 6 for the warm-up, if you want to join. This class will involve casual physical activity and socialising. We will warm up, pair off, learn some basics about boxing form, and then switch partners several times. You can go as hard as you want, or take it easy. For those who do not want to participate or arrive after the class has begun, there will be space to socialise in the kitchen even while the class is on. 7-8 pm Cassie (they/them) is a transgender health researcher at the University of Otago, working for the Trans Heart Health Project. They are holding community engagement hui to discuss heart health and how it is relevant to our communities, but mostly it is about listening. It is a space for you to share your stories, be heard on how this kind of research should be done, and what you think are some important aspects of trans heart health. You don’t need to know anything about heart health or research to have a positive impact on this mahi. Your voice matters! From 8-8:45 will be for socialising, asking the organisers questions, and some clean up before we go home. Feel free to bring containers to take home any leftovers. Accessibility: The space includes an accessible toilet, and an entrance ramp, and is listed on the website as wheelchair friendly. If you would like to have a korero about accessibility or have any questions, please reach out to THHProject@Otago.ac.nz
